Farm Report
week of January 27, 2008 Happy February from Sunflower Fields As you might know, we launched a new website in December. We were really happy to have such an improved site for helping us communicate with folks. But we found that some people were having lots of trouble reading the text on the pages due to our use of a green background combined with default browser setting on people's computers. So... We changed the look of our site to create a better background of using the default text settings of most internet browsers. We are still pleased with the look of our site - even though we also liked the green background - and are happy to report that folks have been much more successful in reading the content of pages and in locating links. We are also busy designing an overhead trolley system for washing, sanitizing and general portability of bulk products in our wash and processing areas. The system will allow us to fill perforated containers with harvested products - like spinach and other greens, carrots, radishes, beets, etc. - and move them into and out of washing tanks filled with aerated water. The trolleys will carry the products from station to station in an efficient manner without excess handling or changing of containers for different cleaning processes. The bottom line is that we will be able to wash, sanitize, rinse and dump into spinners many different products without changing containers or manually carrying them from place to place. This will not only make the process of washing faster and simpler, but it will also allow for a higher quality product due to less handling which causes bruising and shorter shelf life in your refrigerator. We are beginning to really get excited for the coming season and would very much like to encourage you to consider participation in our Farm Shares program. the folks at Sunflower Fields - Solveig, Michael, Rose, Alice and Tess!
