Sunflower Fields - Our Farm

Sunflower Fields is a pretty nice place. It's is our farm, but more importantly, it's our home. Read on for a description of the farm and explore the other links related to Sunflower Fields!

Sunflower Fields lies just north of the Yellow River in Allamakee County near Postville and Waukon. We are constantly told by folks who visit from out of state that they can't believe this is Iowa. "It's just not flat, it has trees, and there isn't a soybean field at every intersection." Yup, that's northeast Iowa!

The farm is made up of 210 acres of fairly hilly land - enough so that we plant on contours and use grass waterways and buffers to make sure we don't lose soil down the slopes. Consequently, you will see as much grass and sod at Sunflower Fields as you find vegetable patches.

Besides our growing land, we have 40 acres of 10 year old forest and we just finished planting another 18 acres of tree seedlings and nuts. Additionally, we also planted a 20 acre section of prairie.

Our 110 year old barn houses a washroom and large packing area for our vegetable production. We also have a licensed processing facility where we can do light vegetable and fruit processing as well as prepared foods from our crops.

Sunflower Fields is truly a beautiful farm. Please take some time to come for a visit and see it for yourself.
