Laura Forsman
Hi everyone. Thanks for taking some time to find out a little more about me. If I didn’t meet you last year, hopefully I’ll see you around this season. I’m originally from Eyota, Minnesota (it’s about 20 minutes east of Rochester) and graduated from the University of Wisconsin—Stevens Point in 2005. I majored in Philosophy with a concentration in Environmental Ethics, and I get a lot of, “Oh, so what are you going to do with that?” to which I enthusiastically reply, “FARM.” Michael and Solveig have been an amazing support for that goal, and that’s the main reason I’m back for another season. They allow and encourage me to be part of everything – from the planning process to planting, harvesting, delivery, and everything in between, including tipping over the potato harvester…they’re really forgiving about mistakes, too, which I tend to do a lot of. I would like to have my own place in the next few years, whenever and wherever I feel comfortable to make the step. When I’m not farming, I have long talks with Basco about ‘leave it’ ‘I said sit!’ and ‘big time leave it.’ I also spend way too much time watching movies, always throw in for a board or card game (I’m kind of psychotic about Monopoly and Euchre), have a few sewing and crocheting projects each year, go on hikes and explore NE Iowa as much as possible, and I’m hoping to play some Ultimate Frisbee this summer. I’m excited about working and living back on the farm and I think Basco is, too. His first job is to establish a couple peace treaties between Liz’s cat, Puppy, and Tess, his pseudo annoying little sister.
